It is with great sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Purcell Murphy on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Ingonish, and raised in Sydney, he was the son of the late George Murphy and Mrs. Bessie (Stockley) Murphy.
Purcell was employed as a cleaner with ABC.
He had a passion for life and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Purcell was an avid fisherman.
Besides his mother, Bessie he is survived by his wife, Crystal; children, Christopher (Kaitlyn), Charles (Jessica), Matthew and Leah (Leon); two precious granddaughters, Kylie and Neveah; his grandsons, who he treated like his own, Austin and Anthony.
Purcell is also survived by his sister, Marie, brother, Murray, as well as many nieces, nephews and many great family and friends.
Besides his father, George, he was predeceased by his sister, Sheila and brother, Frank.
Visitation will be held today (Monday, Jan. 24) at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Matthew Fillier officiating.
