TOWNSEND, Clifford Leslie, North East Point, Shelburne County, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Roseway Hospital, Sandy Point. Born at The Hawk, on March 30, 1924, he was the second son of the late Leslie and Alice (Nickerson) Townsend. Clifford was a hard working man, beginning at the age of 13 making a living at lobster fishing. He worked 35 years at Kenney and Ross Ltd, at its beginning in Stoney Island and then moved to Port Saxon where the new plant was built. Clifford was a World War II veteran in the Merchant Marines, carrying supplies to patrol boats offshore. He worked on the Cape Sable Island Causeway when it was built in 1948-1949. Clifford cared and worried about all of his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. He loved to have them all come to visit so he could tell his stories, (true or false), and pass out peppermints and 7-Up. He leaves behind granddaughter, Angela (David) Fry; great grandsons, Jonathan (Diana) Fry, Richard (Alice) Fry, granddaughter, Vicky (Bernard) Belliveau, great grandchildren, Alex and Nicole Goodwin, Terri Belliveau; daughter-in-law, Joanne Townsend; brothers Milton (Helen), Billy (Claudine), Ernie (Sandra); sisters, Maude, Juanita, Dorothy, Joyce. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Hazel Lavinia Ross; son, Terrance Earl (Terry) Townsend; brothers, Stanley, Albert, Sonny, Robie, Sable, Mifie, infant brother, Henry; sister Norma. Special thanks to Rachel and Joe Hatfield, Judy Hopkins, Maude Brannen, Katherine Swaine and Gary Smith. Thanks to everyone else who phoned, visited and brought special treats to Clifford. Thanks go to Billy Stewart and Lawrence Williams for their visits to Clifford's home and at the hospital, their support was much appreciated. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.
