MURPHY, (Nickerson) Elsie Mae - It is with great sorrow the family of Elsie Mae (Nickerson) Murphy announce her peaceful passing on January 19, 2011, at home surrounded by loved ones. Born September 18, 1939, in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Laura (Morton) Nickerson. Elsie was the beloved wife of John Murphy; mother to Willis (Dawn) Nickerson, Dartmouth; Bruce (Diana) Nickerson, Bedford; Laura MacLellan (Pascal), Yarmouth; Sandra (Steve) Fougere, Yarmouth; Sharon (David) Grant, Cambridge; John (Nicolette) Murphy, Yarmouth; stepmother to Patricia (Ken) Moses, Yarmouth; Bev Murphy, B.C.; sister to Harvey (Grace) Nickerson, Thelma Brassard, Laura (Hugh) Nickerson, Ronald Nickerson and Wayne Nickerson; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Elsie was predeceased by son, Gary; infant daughter, Shelia; brothers, Kenneth and Raymond; sister, Brenda. Elsie was a long-time employee of Villa St. Joseph du-Lac, until her retirement. She was an avid hockey fan, spending a lot of time at the rink watching hockey games. She was also a long-time member of Tops 3124 Yarmouth. Elsie enjoyed spending lots of time with family and special friend, Angie Lawrence. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Friday, January 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was held Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. from the Salvation Army Church, Majors Peter and Janice Rowe officiated. Interment followed in Chegoggin Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Tri-County Branch, or to the Salvation Army in Yarmouth.
