1936 - 2011 Father Yvon Bastarache, 74 of Varadero, Cuba and originally from Cocagne, passed away peacefully in Varadero on Sunday January 23rd, 2011. Born in Cocagne on April 27th, 1936, he was the son of the late Adélard and the late Hélèna (Allain) Bastarache. Father Yvon will be sadly missed by his two brothers, Gerard (Jeannita) and Robert both of Cocagne, several nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves to mourn, his parishioners in Varadero, Cuba, his colleagues in the priesthood, and all who have had a chance to meet him and get to know him. Upon entering the priesthood, Father Yvon joined La Société des Missions Étrangères of Montreal. He was assigned to the parish in Varadero over 47 years ago. He lived to help and give to his people his family and friends and he was always available with his words of wisdom. He was predeceased by one sister Simone and two brothers, Roger and Normand.
Funeral Mass was held in Varadero on Tuesday January 25th, 2011 with internment in the Varadero parish cemetery. A commemorative Mass will be celebrated at the Saint-Pierre Roman Catholic Church in Cocagne on Saturday February 5th, 2011 at 10:30 am with Monsignor André Richard presiding, and concelebrated by his colleagues' priest.
