It is with great sadness that the family of the late Florence Martin announces her passing at the age of 86 after a brief battle with cancer. Florence passed away peacefully at the home of her granddaughter Cindy surrounded by her loving family. Florence was born and brought up in Stellarton-a daughter of the late Daniel and Catherine (Cameron) Hayes MacDonald. Known affectionately by close friends and family as Nan or Nannie Moe, Florence was the cornerstone of her family; her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her utmost joy.
Florence was a faithful member of Trinity United Church where she attended worship weekly without fail unless ill. She considered the ministers and congregation of Trinity her extended family. She was an active member of UCW Unit A. Florence could be found reading her bible faithfully every day.
Florence is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Left to mourn her loss but also to cherish her memory are son Robin MacKay, New Glasgow; step sons Wayne (Cindy) Martin, Plymouth; Ralph (Chantal) Martin, Charlottetown, PE; grandchildren Cindy Martin (Wayne), Plymouth; Caroll Ann MacKinnon (Blair), Scotsburn; Chrystal Baxter (Richie), Plymouth, Jim Baxter (Shelly), Oyster Bay; Stacey MacKay (Sandy), Little Harbour; Wendy Verge (Michael), New Glasgow; great-grandchildren Ryan, Evan, Olivia, Jorja, Ben, Liam, and Mason; step-grandchildren Jamie and Kyle; son-in-law Jim Baxter, Stellarton; and daughter-in-law Linda Mackay, Little Harbour; several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husbands Clyde MacKay, Ivan MacLeod and Ralph Martin; daughter Bonnie Baxter and son Derek MacKay; brothers Harry MacDonald, Andrew Hayes, Jim Hayes, Bill Hayes; sisters Tina MacLeod and Emma Livingstone.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Tuesday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday in Trinity United Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating, reception to follow. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Florence's memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of one's choice.
