It is with great sadness that the family of Joe Gallant announce his death at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Jan. 29, 2011 at the age of 71. Born in North Rustico, P.E.I. on July 6, 1939 he was the husband of Julia (Furlong) Gallant of Fredericton.

In addition to his wife, Julia, Joe leaves behind his son, Kevin (Melanie) Gallant of Miramichi; daughters, Brenda (Tim) MacKinnon of Saint John and Michelle (Shawn Pearson) Gallant of Maugerville; brothers, Cyril (Betty) Gallant, Gerry (Sherri) Gallant, Eric (Judith) Gallant and Paul (Faye) Gallant, all of P.E.I.; sisters, Louise (Mel) LaBrech, RoseMarie (Brian) Brown, Yvonne (Charlie) MacQuaid and Estelle Heath, all of P.E.I.; grandchildren, Alex, Justin, Rachel and Alex P. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Regina Gallant; son, Andrew and brother, Camille.

Joe loved his family both at home and in P.E.I. He worked as a management fisheries consultant for decades. He liked to fish, golf, hunt and attend annual family reunions. Many thanks and prayers to all his family and friends for the support in these difficult days.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 from 10 a.m. -12 p.m. at McAdam's Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. the same day at St. Dunstan's Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald White officiating. Joe will be buried with his son, Andrew, in the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
