It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Catherine Ann 'Kaye/Caddie' MacNeil, 66 of Iona, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck after a courageous battle with cancer.
Kaye was born in Sydney on April 18, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Hector and Anna MacNeil, Iona. She will be dearly missed by her five children, Cheryl (Sonny) Johnson, Iona, Michele (Sheldon) Matheson, Baddeck, Gerald (Mona), Halifax, Gerard (Kelli), Port Hawkesbury and Lori (Scott) Shaw, Whycocomagh. Nana was loved by her 14 grandchildren, Dakota, Harley, Chynna, Bauer, Eilish, Wren, Matthew, Lindsay, Megan, Marcy, Evan, Lucas, Hunter and Jayden. These little angels were her pride and joy. Caddie leaves behind her siblings, Jimmy (Jerry), Washabuck; Sadie (Michael) MacKenzie, Big Beach; John Hector (Juanita), Hazeldale; Josie (Richard) Bonaparte, Iona and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Kaye was predeceased by her husband, Roddie Frank; her sister, Sissy and brother, George.
Caddie was a lifetime member of St. Columba parish, Iona. She was known by many for her incredible gift of telling stories. Her visitors never left without a good cup of tea and an entertaining conversation. Caddie was an active member of her community. She will be forever remembered for her beautiful smile, her outgoing personality, her unbelievable memory, her great sense of humour, her compassion for others and her strong faith.
Visitation for Catherine Ann MacNeil will be Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 2 - 9 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Columba Parish Hall, Iona. The celebration of her life will be Thursday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. at St. Columba Church with Fr. Paul Abbass officiating.
