Robert Crosthwaite
Robert Edgar Crosthwaite, 92, of Salisbury, passed away at home, Sunday, January 30, 2011 surrounded by his family. Born in River Glade, he was a son of the late John and Ella (Douthwright) Crosthwaite. Robert was a retired Forest Ranger with the Department of Natural Resources, he attended the Salisbury Baptist Church and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 31. Robert was a veteran of WWII serving with the Provost Corp throughout Great Britain for 2 years and was a prisoner of war for 33 months in Germany, captured in the raid on Dieppe. He enjoyed the outdoors gardening, hunting and fishing. Survived by his beloved wife of 64 years Elinor (Price); daughters Margaret Crosthwaite and Jane Stuart (William) both of River Glade; son William (Monica) of Upper Mountain Road; grandchildren Connie Scott, Kelly Crosthwaite, Trevor Stuart, Robbie Stuart; great grandchildren Carly, Billy, Curtis, Chloe, Ellie, Liam and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant son Robert, grandson Kevin Crosthwaite, sister Marjorie Crosthwaite, three brothers Samuel, Clifton and Thomas. Robert was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
At Bob's request there will be no public service. A family graveside service will be held at Fair Haven Cemetery with his nephew Rev. Robert Crosthwaite officiating. Arrangements are in the care of Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800). Memorials, if desired, to a charity of choice would be appreciated. www.keirsteads.ca
