
NORM SMITH

Norm Smith passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday afternoon with family at his side. Born in Tuxford on December 24, 1917 dad grew up and helped farm the family farm north of Boharm. Norm married Audrey McKeown on December 25, 1942 and shortly after was sent to Red Deer, Alberta with the Canadian Forces until posted overseas in 1943. Dad served overseas until 1945 at which time he returned home to the farm. There he and Audrey raised their three children. They lived on the farm until moving into Moose Jaw in 1978. Norm was the 'telephone trouble man' for the Pioneer Rural Phone Company and also the snowplower for the community for many years. In later years he devoted countless hours working with the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company. He was also very involved with the Light Horse Federation and through these endevours made many friends. Even after moving into Moose Jaw dad drove out to the farm every day and remained very involved in the operations there. Predeceased by this parents, Albert and Maude Smith, his wife Audrey, sister Mary. He is survived by three children: Pat (Bill) Fasick -Calgary; grandchildren: Dorrie - Kelowna, Brent (Lisa) - Calgary; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Gavin; Mike (Shirley) Smith - Moose Jaw, grandchildren: Jason - Calgary and Quinton (Heidie) - Moose Jaw; great-grandchild, Jayden; Jackie (Grant) Hogg - Red Lake, ON; grandchildren: Jody (Greg) Bogaert - Port Lambton, ON; and Kirby - Canmore, AB. Following a private family interment, friends are invited to join the family in celebration of Norm's life at the W.J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E. on Saturday, February 5, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations, if so desired, may be sent to a charity of choice.
