Our beloved Mamie passed peacefully from the loving arms of her son Douglas and daughter Jeannette into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Mamie was born December 16, 1941 in Petty Harbour to Cecil and Phoebe (Andrews) Whitten. Her strong faith was reflected in her warm personality and her love of life. Mamie's kindness and smile will be sadly missed by all who know and love her.
Mamie is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by John "Jack" Howlett, her devoted husband of 49 years; son Douglas and daughter-in-law Margaret; daughter Jeannette and son-in-law Wayne Putt; grandchildren: Sarah Howlett (Chris Deir), Johnathan Howlett (Shannon Pottle), Christina Howlett (Shane Tulk), Genna Putt and Stacy Putt (Trent Best); sisters: Marguerite Weir and Stella Evans (Murray); brothers: Cyril Whitten, Max Whitten (Blanche), Ronald Whitten (Gert), Leonard Whitten (June) and Victor Whitten (Barbara); sisters-in-law: Mary Duke, Jennie Mahon, Joan Howlett and Joan Whitten; brother-in-law Sam (Junior) Howlett (Mary) and her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including Muriel Andrews and Olive English. Mamie is predeceased by her parents Cecil and Phoebe Whitten; infant sister Madeline; brother Robert Whitten; father-in-law and mother-in-law Sam and Mamie Howlett; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Whitten and Lydia Berman; brothers-in-law: Herbert Weir, William Howlett, William Duke and Vince Mahon.
A special thank you to the staff of 2 East at the Escasoni Home for the care and compassion shown to Mamie over the past twelve years. Family and friends will be received at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue on Wednesday, February 2, from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, February 3 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
A service to celebrate Mamie's life will be held at St. George's Church, Petty Harbour on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Kevin's Cemetery, Goulds. Memorial donations to St. George's Church, Petty Harbour or the MS Society and flowers will be graciously accepted. Please visit www.barretts.ca to sign the memorial guest book.
