Bernetta Lillian MacInnis, 73 of Cameron Street, Sydney, passed away Friday, Feb. 4, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a lengthy illness.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Alexander Roach and Georgina Neil.
Bernie was a devoted mother and grandmother whose main concern was her family's well-being. She was a huge fan of the local flea markets and enjoyed a good game of bingo.
She is survived by five daughters, Doris (Gordie) Matheson, Elizabeth Blackie (Brian), Mary Boudreau (Allan), all of Sydney, Georgina (Ben) Gracie, Margaret Anne (Paul) Taylor, both of the Northside; two sons, Billy (Donna) Blackie, Jerome (Donna) Forrest, both of Ontario; five stepchildren, Jocelyn MacInnis, Donnie (Margie) MacInnis, John (Wanda) MacInnis, all of Sydney, Byron (Sherry) MacInnis, New Victoria, Billy MacInnis, Alberta; sisters, Maria (Peter) MacLean, New Waterford, Carmel (Linus) Muise, Kathleen Roach, Lorraine (Matthew Charazy) Chipman, all of Ontario; brothers, Leo, Alexander (Paulette), Donald (Mary), all of New Waterford, Joseph and Michael (Dawn), both of Ontario and by 26 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Bernie was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2005.
Visitation for Bernetta MacInnis will take place on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
