Wilfred "Swede" Phillips of Calgary passed away on Saturday, January 22 at the age of 83 years. He was born on September 12, 1927, in Gravelbourg, SK, the second son of Jack and Jeanne Phillips. "Swede" completed his schooling in Hodgeville and worked at a number of jobs here. He joined the Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Ontario and Halifax, NS. After the time in the Air Force he returned to Hodgeville and worked at the Beaver Lumber and then at Art Ewert's garage. He then moved to Calgary and worked at McGavin's for many years. The celebration of Swede's life was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Chapelhow Branch in Calgary on Janaury 27. He was a member of this branch for over forty years. He was predeceased by his first wife in Nova Scotia and his loving wife Vicky in Calgary; his parents, Jack and Jeanne Phillips; three sisters. Dorothy, Pearl and Lyla; two brothers, Hap (Harold) and Gene; and brother-in-law Wilf Schous. He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters Jean Marie in Nova Scotia and Edith in Calgary; two sisters, Eleanor Schous of Hodgeville and Lee Hanover of Penticton, BC; one great granddaughter Alyssa in Nova Scotia; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
