Douglas Allen "Doug" Bray - 57, of Kentville, Nova Scotia, passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 11, 1953 in Victoria, British Columbia, he was the son of Arthur and Dorothy (Jenkins) Bray, Dartmouth. He attended the University of Ottawa where he received his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Administration degrees and the Chartered Accountant designation. After moving from Brampton, Ontario to Canning, Kings County, in 1995, he was the proud owner and operator of the Farmhouse Inn for ten years (1995-2005) and in 2005 he became the owner and operator of Ledgers Annapolis Valley. He took great pride in being self employed and dedicated his service to his clients and customers. He enjoyed travelling, tennis, crossword puzzles and was a talented poet. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother and friend. Everything he did, he did with and for his family. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Ellen Kealy; two daughters, Kathleen "Katie" (special friend, Nathan Haley) and Alison, both at home; a sister, Sandy Bray, Ottawa; mother-in-law, Alma Kealy, Brampton; sisters-in-law, Bernadette Kealy, Brampton; Patricia (Gerry) Crake (their children, Jason and Trevor), Inglewood; a brother-in-law, Joe (Laurie) Kealy (their children, Christopher and Jaclyn), Brampton; uncles, Jack Bray, Ottawa; Stanley (Helen) Bray, Toronto; Jerry (Frances) Jenkins, Burlington; special cousin, Rick Jenkins, Ottawa; special family friend, Barb Stern, Toronto. He will also be missed by Sonny, "the world's best puppy". He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Arthur Kealy. Visitation was held from 12:00 noon until the time of the funeral service and reception held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Tim Archibald officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or the Canadian Cancer Society.
