Tena Sawatsky

Passed on: January 29th, 2011

Tena Sawatsky passed away peacefully on January 29, 2011 at the age of 90. She was born in Neville on October 25th. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Imperial Hotel, then went on to manage the Dixie Lunch and Truck Town. Peter and Tena retired to a acreage west of Swift Current, but later moved back into Swift Current. They eventually moved to the Golden West Manor. Tena was an avid golfer winning many tournaments and numerous trophies and club championships. She loved to work in the yard and also loved to crochet and knit. She crocheted as many as 50 afghans designing the names of the person she gave the afghan to. She also made a beautiful afghan, which took a year to make and now a family heirloom. She was also very musical, playing her keyboard and especially her mouth organ. Tena enjoyed her grandchildren and loved to play in the backyard with them, making a swing for them to play on. Our parents attended the Full Gospel Church for many years, making many wonderful friends there. Mom and Dad had many opportunities to travel south for the winter, to Vancouver to visit family and friends. They even ventured out in their later years to visit very special friends in Spain. Mom and Dad had "traveling buddies" with their fifth-wheel trailers, spending time together as friends. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Tena was predeceased by her husband of 70 years on September3, 2007. She is survived by her son, Lance (Lorraine) Sawatsky (Swift Current) grandchildren Tim (Melissa) Sawatsky (Calgary), Kelly Sawatsky (Vancouver), Doug (Jamie) Penner (Swift Current), Teresa (Kevin) Funk (Swift Current): her daughter Bonny (Bob) Neufeld (Swift Current), grandchildren Skip (Leslie) Neufeld (Swift Current), Jamie (Jen) Neufeld (Lethbridge), Jodi (Todd) Salmon (Dallas, Texas): Ryan (Dianne) Sawatsky (Nanaimo), grandchildren Corey Bruhaug (Langley), Tyler (Leslie) Bruhaug (Langley), her great grandchildren, her brother Barney Loewen, brothers-in-law Cornie (Eunice) Sawatsky, Jake (Sylvia) Sawatsky. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 4, 2011, at 1:30 pm from the Church of the Open Bible, Swift Current, SK, with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating.
