It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Ryan, on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family at her side.
Mary was born and raised in Reserve Mines, the daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine (Roach) McNeil. She was married to Jerry Ryan in 1941 and spent most of her adult life in River Ryan; the last four years at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney.
She was a member of St. Michael’s parish, active in the C.W.L. for many years, and a long time member of the Charismatic Renewal Movement.
The most important aspects of her life were family and church. Mary was an avid reader and a great supporter of the New Waterford Branch of the regional library.

She is also survived by her sister, Gina Cummerford.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Jerry; brothers, Francis, Norman, Alex, Angus and Johnny.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael Church, River Ryan with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Agnes Hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
