We, the family of Peter Hawkins, are sorry to announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Bras d'Or on April 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Laffin) Hawkins. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Bras d'Or.
Peter worked for Nickerson's Fish Plant until his retirement, at age 65.
He will be sadly missed by his six daughters, Lillian (Phil) Devoe, Debbie, Linda (Bruce) Luker, Judy, Heidy (Gary) Luker, and Wina (Nick) McDonald, and four sons, Mark (Trinh), Petie (Miriam), Timmy (Michelle) and Kelly (Jennifer), brothers Joe Hawkins and Rick Hawkins, and a sister Millie Kirrane; 31 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by his wives, Elvena, Agnes and Betty; grandsons, Blaine and Petie and sisters, Bessie Hawkins and Shirley Anthony.
There will be no visitation. The funeral mass celebrating Peter's life will take place on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall, following the service.
Donations in Peter's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, or a charity of one's choice.
