Our Paul passed from this world surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, where he was cared for by the wonderful staff of the An Cala palliative care unit after a very short, but courageous battle with cancer.
Paul was born in North Sydney, the son of Geraldine 'Deane' (O'Toole) Power and the late Al 'Butch' Power.
Left to cherish his wonderful memory are his loving wife and best friend of 43 years, Joan (Murphy); son, Troy and daughter, Tracy (Warren Capstick). Paul is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, Jonathan, Madison and Brayden, whom he loved dearly. Paul is also survived by brothers, Terry (Sandra), Glenn (Raylene), Eric and sisters, Judy (Edmund Hart), Lynn (George Nugent), Rhonda (Dennis Kelly), Annette (Roy Moore) and Raylene (Alan House). Paul will also be sadly missed by his best friend and companion, "Toby"......woof.
Besides his father, Paul was predeceased by a son in infancy, Todd, grandson, Brent and his sister, Susan.
In his early years, Paul joined the Canadian Armed Forces where he was a member of the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry.
Paul lived and worked in Toronto for 20 years as a limo driver and property manager. He then returned to Glace Bay in 1985 and became a Microsoft certified systems engineer. For the last nine years he was employed at Stream in Glace Bay.
Paul was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching his grandkids play hockey and baseball. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who will be loved and missed by all.
Visitation for Paul will be held at Curry's Funeral Home on Main Street in Glace Bay, Friday, Feb. 11 at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Anthony's Church on Dominion Street in Glace Bay on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Lunch will follow in the church basement.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be held in the spring at St. Anne's Cemetery.
Donations in Paul's memory may be made to the An Cala palliative care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
