Eugene "Gene" Walter Mykytiw of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 8, 2011 at the age of 72. Gene came to Moose Jaw in 1959 with his family and they bought the Cecil Hotel which they operated until 1975 when it was destroyed by fire. He continued in the hospitality industry throughout his life with the Park Lodge. Even in retirement, Gene combined his love of golf with the hospitality industry by leasing and operating the Hillcrest Restaurant & Lounge. Gene was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Kinsmen & K40, and was very active in promoting tourism in Moose Jaw. He was quick to smile and will be remembered for that amazing smile. Predeceased by his father Walter, and brother George. Gene will be sadly missed by his wife, Janet; daughters Angela Mykytiw, Zoe Mykytiw, Tanis (Derek) Hicks; and son Chad (Renee) Coles; grandchildren, Avery, Brodie, Ainsley, and Andon; his mother Mary; brother Larry (Gail); nephew Tie; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Gene's life will be planned for the spring. For those so wishing, memorials to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
