It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David LeBlanc, 74, on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, Oct. 19, 1936, he was the son of the late Simon and Georgina (Fortune) LeBlanc.
David lived most of his life in Ontario, where he sailed the Great Lakes for over 40 years.
David will be greatly missed by his only son, David Leblanc; brothers, Pat (Yvonne), Brian (Dena), Wayne, Frankie (Gail), Lawrence and Greg (Jin); sisters, Dorothy (Marvin) Holmen, Mary (Tom) Capstick, Helen Cholock, Nora LeBlanc and Valerie Hurley. He is also survived by his only aunt, Elizabeth Thomas; many nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Wanda MacKenzie. He also leaves behind his dogs, Nitro and Patches, who were always close by.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers John, four brothers in infancy, and brother-in-law George Cholock.
Visitation for David LeBlanc will be held today (Thursday, Feb. 10) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Pius X Church, with Fr. Ajit Kerketta officiating. A reception will be held in the parish hall after the mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
