Douglas Maxwell Brown - A kind and special person passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. He was 84. Born in Hall’s Harbour, Kings County, he was a son of the late Vernon and Violet Brown. He grew up on the family farm and enjoyed working in the woods. He was later employed with the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, the Miller Hospital and the Blanchard Fraser Memorial Hospital, Kentville. He enjoyed spending time with family, listening to old-time country music and Wednesday night Kinsman TV Bingo. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Brown (Darrell Whiston), Kentville; a step-grandson, Robbie Whiston, Kentville, four sisters, Flora Sanford, Cambridge; Martha Munroe, Hall’s Harbour; Melina Colburne, New Brunswick and Verna Rees, Alberta; a brother, Howard (Amy), Kentville; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Gertrude Blanche Croft; a brother, Edward. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside service will take place at a later date in the Greenfield Cemetery, Kings County, Reverend Mark Shaw officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Lung Association or the Valley Regional Hospital. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
