It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the passing of Georgina Elizabeth MacDonald at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011.
Born in Glace Bay, Sept. 4, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Sabine (Odo) Mercer.
She was the loving wife of Carl MacDonald for 32 years and loving mother to her children, Brenda Comer (Paul), Douglas Slade, Kim Slade (Brian), Judy MacDougall (Craig), Lisa McDonald (Danny), Scott and Mary Beth; grandchildren, Crystal, Cheryl, Jason, Daniel, Lyndon, Courtney, Devon and Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Logan, Madison and Callie; numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brother, Melvin (Sylvia) Mercer; sisters, May (Jim) Milley, Mary (Ernie) Cochran, Gladys Spencer and sister-in-law, Tillie Mercer.
She was predeceased by son, Victor Erwin, grandson, Robbie, brothers, Joseph and George, sisters, Emma, Amy and Jessie.
Georgina was an active member of Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church and will be greatly missed by her many Christian friends.
Georgina loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener who spent countless hours admiring nature’s beauty.
She was the rock of her family and always put them first. Anyone who came in contact with Georgina fell in love with her. She is going to be tremendously missed by all who knew her. She is already noticeably missed by ‘woman’s best friend’ her dog Lacey.
Visitation Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Kevin Mattatal officiating.
