Passed on: February 12th, 2011

Murray died Feb. 12, 2011, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility.
Born in Ingonish, Jan. 12, 1930, Murray lived on the family homestead at Rockey Point.
He was a kind, gentle person who had an amazing self taught knowledge of nature. A longtime steward of the sea he believed in hard work and living from nature. There was always a proper way to hunt, fish, or pick a blueberry. He enjoyed hearing if the fish were biting or if a deer had been sighted. He was the companion of many a beagle or black lab over his 81 years and was often seen by many in his rubber boots, walking his niece’s, “pups” or making his rounds dropping bones off to local dogs. Murray was also a lifetime contributor to Parks Canada’s annual bird count. Those of us that knew him well will miss his stories, his humour, albeit sarcastic at times, and the quiet way he always hummed a tune.
Murray shared his life with his girlfriend, Alice; his niece, Clara and her husband Mike and their three children Evan, Taylor and Samuel aka “Little John”; his special sister-in-law, Sadie and niece, Claudette; his life-long friend, Buck Hussey and his second family, the staff on Wentworth Court.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Louise and sisters, Pat, Kaye, Francis and Nora, brother’s Jim and Russell.
He is survived by siblings Rose, Ontario, Mary, Dartmouth, Hannah, Baddeck, Clancy, Main-a-Dieu, Ann and Roy, Ingonish.
A celebration of Murray’s life will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ingonish, on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Warren Huestis officiating. Reception to follow at the Ingonish Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the nursing staff of Wentworth Court, your gentle love and care will forever be appreciated.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to our local SPCA at www.Capebretonspca.com or by visiting the shelter at 401 East Broadway in Whitney Pier.
