It is with deep regret that we, the family announce the passing of Charlie Poirier on Feb. 12, 2011, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Chéticamp, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marguerite (née Aucoin) Poirier.
Charlie explored many careers throughout his life before retiring as a waiter at the Bonnie Prince in 1991, having served his loyal customers for 45 years. In work and life Charlie was everybody’s friend, best known for his sense of humour that he kept to the very last day. Charlie especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He was an excellent Acadian rug-hooker and had many happy memories of camping in Chéticamp and Ben Eoin. He will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Beatrice (née Roach); daughters, Doreen (Ernie) Wilson, Elmsdale, and Marlene Poirier, Dartmouth; brothers, Loubie Poirier, Cornwall, Ont., and Albert (Edna) Poirier, Midland, Ont.; sisters, Katie Roach, New Waterford, and Jeannette Maglario, Sydney; grandchildren, Charlene and Christine Hagell, Truro, Michael and Melissa Mackley, Dartmouth; great-grandson, Kobe Hagell.
He was predeceased by brother, Willie, sisters, Marie, Louise, Roseanne, Elizabeth, Annie and Julie.
At Charlie’s request, there is no visitation. A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 1 .p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. An interment will take place at a later date.
