SONIA JARVIE

Born In: Melbourne, Australia
Born: August 18th, 1943

Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: February 9th, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sonia Jarvie on February 9th, 2011.

Sonia is survived by her spouse Gary Turner of Kamloops, BC, ex-husband Bill Jarvie of Kamloops, BC, and children Shane Jarvie of Merritt, BC, and Mike Jarvie of Melbourne, Australia. Also left to cherish her memory are her mother Moira Marr and three younger sisters, Denise Weire, Christine Ryan, and Moira Wigg, all of Australia. She will be fondly remembered by her four grandchildren: Trey and Kerragan Selman, and Micah and Tameeka Jarvie.

Sonia was predeceased by her father Thomas Marr of Melbourne, Australia.

Sonia was born in Melbourne, Australia on April 18, 1943. She was married in 1964 to a Canadian, Bill Jarvie. On March 31, 1968 she had her first son Michael Thomas Jarvie. Twenty three months later on February 13, 1970 she had her second son Shane William Jarvie. On April 23, 1971 the family boarded the Camberra bound for Canada. After eighteen days at sea they landed in Vancouver. May 10, 1971 was the first time she had ever stepped on Canadian soil. The family resided in New Westminster for two years before moving to Kamloops where she has resided ever since. Her first employment was with Kmart where she remained for some 20 years until it closed. After that she started her own cleaning business until she retired at 65. On top of all that she has kept busy the last 22 years managing the Peter & Paul apartment buildings in Kamloops with her spouse Gary Turner. Over the years some of her favourite memories were: bowling with her Kmart girls, family vacations, camping and fishing with Gary, and whipping up a great Chinese feast for her family and friends. And of course, her life was always entertaining bringing up her two boys.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 19th, 2011 at the Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive, Kamloops, BC.

Special thanks to the staff at RIH for making her final days full of compassion and companionship.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Lung Association.
