It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Agnes Theresa Matheson on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish, with her family at her side.
Agnes was born Sept. 12, 1923, in Point Michaud. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Agnes (Gracie) Raney.
Agnes worked in Grand River at an early age until she met her husband, George and resided there before moving to St. Anne’s Nursing Home in Arichat in 2008.
Agnes is survived by her loving children, Peggy (Donnie) MacNeil, Evanston, Linda (Mike) Sutherland, Sydney, Georgina (Frank) Mombourquette, Lr. L’Ardoise; brothers, John Raney and Joseph Raney; sisters, Mary MacKay, Betty Dube and Martha Gracie; grandchildren, Lynn, Graham, Michelle, Kelly, Sean, Keri, Rejeanne and Denny; great-grandchildren, Laycie, Nicole, Max, Jayden, Ben and Sophie.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Matheson, brothers, Richard and Mickey, sister, Catherine.
Visitation will be held today (Friday), July 10, from 2-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, St. Peter’s. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Grand River Presbyterian Church, Rev. Murdock MacRae officiating. Burial in Grand River cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand River Fire Department and the St. Anne’s Nursing Home Activity Department.
