THEAKER - Irene Elizabeth of Vanguard passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital July 1, 2009, at the age of 94 years. Irene was born in the Webb District on April 7, 1915, and attended school at Pambrun. She was a member of the United Church, the Seniors group, and the Homemaker's Club. Irene had many interests and hobbies in her life, including reading, playing piano, quilting, embroidering and other types of handwork, entertaining and going out for tea. She enjoyed being hostess at "the Center". Irene's home was always open to friends, including keeping school children when there was a storm and they couldn't get home. Irene was a perfect hostess and loved to entertain. The table was set with her good dishes and always a tablecloth on it that she had embroidered. She was a great letter writer, keeping in touch was important to her. Irene will be missed at all Pambrun and Vanguard social events, meetings, showers and whatever else was going on. She did her part by helping out, bringing lunch, taking gifts, cleaning up or whatever else was needed. She was always very prim and proper. It was the proper thing to do to visit the new minister as soon as they arrived, even if it means going in your nightgown with a coat over the top. She was always a perfect lady and friend. Irene leaves to mourn her passing her sister-in-law, Joyce Theaker. She was predeceased by mother, Marth Theaker (1957); father, Louis Theaker (1967); and brother, Harvey Theaker (1995). A funeral service was held for Irene on Tuesday July 7, 2009, at 2:00 PM from the Vanguard United Church with Pastor Sue Flemming officiating. Memories of Irene were shared by Joanne Woods and the organist was Dorothy Saunderson. Pallbearers were Jeff Hornung, Richard Wharton, David Burton, Gerald Johnston, Albert Janzen and Bob Burns. Honorary pallbearers included all of Irene's "Vanguard Family". Interment service followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Swift Current. Memorial donations in Irene's memory can be made to the Van Pam Pool. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
