WHITE, Dennis Herbert- 82, Port Williams passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side after a long battle with Alzheimer's and cancer on Sunday February 13, 2011 in Port Williams. Born in Gilberts Cove he was a son of the late James and Sarah (Melanson) White. In his early years he was an engineer in the merchant marines on the Caribbean Sea. He gave up his life at sea to get married and raise a family but never gave up his love of the sea. He worked several years as a truck driver before going to work for Standard Paving where he was employed for 25 years. starting as a heavy equipment operator and ending as a crusher foreman for 18 years. He will be remembered for his work ethics, his wit, his pranks, and his story telling. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marion (Saltzman); daughter Debbie (Ian) Luscombe, Canning; sons Randy (Patricia), Kitscoty, Alta, Ron (Dallas), Arlington; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Brown, Annapolis Royal. He will also be missed by his little black Pomeranian, Tilly, his constant companion. Besides his parents Dennis was predeceased by a son Leonard in infancy; brothers Joseph, Chester, Charlie and Leonard; sisters Muriel, Viola, Dorothy and Edith. Cremation has taken place. A funeral memorial service was held Thursday February 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. John's Anglican Church, Port Williams The Reverend David Garrett officiating. Donations in memory of Dennis may be made to the Palliative Care Unit the VON or the St. John's Anglican Church, Port Williams.
