DAWSON, Thomas Joseph (Tom) – Passed away suddenly at home in Labrador City, formerly of St. John’s, Tom Dawson, age 55, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. Predeceased by his father, Jack Dawson, 2001; and brother, William (Bill), 2005. Leaving to mourn with loving and fond memories his best friend and wife, Vera (nee Jenkins); two sons: Christopher and Patrick (Charlene); four daughters: Sherrie (Brian), Debbie, Shilou and Tammy (Morley); six grandchildren: Shea, Patrick, Chloe, Montana, Faith and Isabella; his mother, Gertrude; seven brothers: Gerry (Pat), John (Monica), Victor (Brenda), Hubert (Sheliagh), Greg (Marina), Stan (Rita) and Ronnie (Ming); seven sisters: Bernice Greeley, Jeanette (Len) Fitzpatrick, Barbara (Bill) Roberts, Patsy (Den) Moores, Joan (Wendell) Budden, Ann (Kieran) Croft, Lorraine Sheehan; eight brothers-in-law: Ross (Thelma), Melvin (Marilyn), Don, Pleman, Ivan (Christine), Wayne, Scott (Muriel), Rodney (Darlene); five sisters-in-law: Sandra (Albert) Hillier, Viola (Louis) Barnes, Thelma (Keith) Burt, Ruby (Paul) Efford, Marilyn; Tom’s beloved companion, Chico; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Mass for the Celebration and Thanksgiving of Tom’s life was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Labrador City on Monday, February 7, 2011, officiated by Father Jarek Pachocki, OMI. Tom worked with The Iron Ore Company of Canada for 25 years and was known by all in Labrador City as “Awesome Dawson.” Donations may be made in his memory to The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland & Labrador.
