Laura Wilband
At home with her family on February 19, 2011, beloved wife of the late Oscar Wilband. Laura was born on November 23, 1914 at Bleakney Road, Petitcodiac, NB. She was a daughter of the late Alexander and Emily (nee McFee) Duncan. She enjoyed a happy childhood on her family farm. In her teens, she went to Boston to work. She spent eight years in the States. During the war, she moved back to New Brunswick and made her home in Saint John for the next 20 years, at which time she eventually returned to her original home area. In her mid 50's, she attended college and achieved certification in the cooking field. She spent seven summers in Alma as the chef at the Club House at Fundy National Park. She was also House Mother at Cleveland Place for six of those summer seasons. Her grandmother was a "Kennie" from Albert County, so Laura fit right in. Laura was a member of the First North River United Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of the Fawcett Hill-Intervale Women's Institute. She was also a member and instructor for the Maple Leaf Zone of Geri-Fitness. Deeply missed by her family: daughters, Bonnie, Donna & her husband Lawrence, Tanya & her husband Rick; sons, Paul & his wife Ruth, and John McGrath and his wife Sue; and by her brother, Charles Duncan. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Kevin & Danie, Germany; Derrick & Amanda, North Bay, ON; Jason & Michelle, Belmont, ON; Cari & Luke, Calgary, AB; Heidi & Paul, Summerside, PEI; Heather, Moncton, NB; Dennis & Alexa, Cary, NC; Michael & Dayna, Woodstock, NB; Laura, Pink Mountain, BC; Justin, Hartland, NB; Jonathan, Moncton, NB; Laura, Halifax, NS, and her great-grandchildren: Jesse, Kameron, Jenna, Ryan, Jon, Luke, Kaden, Oskar, Callie, Danica, Sara, and Sadie. She was predeceased by her infant son, Dennis; her siblings, Nellie, Ada, Lucy, Geraldine, Jessie, Gordon, and Vincent; her step-grandson, Kevin. The Wilband family extends a special thank-you to Dr. Silver, nurse Sylvia Sleeper, and the caregivers for their remarkable compassion and kindness shown to our wonderful mother.
"If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together…there is something you must always remember...you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think, but the most important thing is, even when we're apart, I'll always be with you" - A.A. Milne
