Alison Durling

March 14, 1927 - February 19, 2011 - Alison P. Durling of Skiff Lake, New Brunswick passed away February 19, 2011 at the Upper River Valley Hospital. Born at Woodstock, NB on March 14, 1927. Daughter of the late Gage W. and Queen (Queenie) Victoria ( (Britton) Montgomery. Alison graduated from Woodstock High School and then attended Mount Allison University. She went to Teachers College in Fredericton and taught school in Plaster Rock, NB for one year and then in Canterbury, NB where she met her husband Robert E. Durling and married in April, 1949. In 1963 Alison returned to teaching and taught until retirement in 1990. She spent the last 25 years living at Skiff Lake, where she led an extremely busy and active life. She was a member of the United Church of Canada. She also played the organ for the Anglican Church in Canterbury. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Robert E. Durling, her brother, Justice H. Edward Montgomery, and her sister, Mrs. Barbara Crocco. She is survived by her sister Elizabeth Knight (Dave) of Collingwood, ON; her four daughters, Barbara Foster (Ron) of East Grand Lake, NB, Judith Lake (George Dignam) of Hanwell, NB, Lorraine Delong (Lorne) of Marne, NB, Kelley Grant (Rocky) of Ottawa, ON; sister-in-law Mary Lou Montgomery of Fredericton, NB; her grand children, Mark Foster of Auburn, Me., Julia Hemsley of Huntley, Illinois, Jill Comly of Aidrie, Alberta, Pamela Lake of Calgary, Alberta, Kyle Delong of Lincoln, NB, Josie Lynn Delong of Marne, NB, James Grant of Halifax, NS, Alex and Ryan Grant both of Ottawa, ON; and her great grandchildren, Gage, Madeline, Sophie, Lily, Harker, Ethan, Avery, and nieces and nephews.
By Alison’s request there will be no visitation or funeral. Interment will take place in the spring at the Canterbury Cemetery, Canterbury, NB.
For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.
