It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of our dear father, brother, and grandfather, Leonard Burke, on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney after a brief illness.
Leonard was a veteran of the Second World War, having served in Europe in No. 85 and 86 Brigade Company of the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps.
Prior to his retirement, Leonard worked at the Fortress of Louisbourg and for many years at the National Sea Products Plant in Louisbourg.
Leonard is survived by his daughters, Linda (Richard Boates), Fredericton, Debbie (Kenny Fraser), Sydney, and Arlene Burke, Louisbourg; his brother, James Burke, Halifax; grandchild, Lisa Boates; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Patrick Landry.
Besides his mother, Eveline Burke, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy ‘Dot’ (McGee) in December 2010, grandchild, Lyndsay Boates, brothers, Charles and William.
Visitation for Leonard will take place Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Patrick O’Neil officiating. Cremation to follow.
He will be deeply missed by all who loved and know him.
