McCarthy: Anna C. “Currie” R.N., age 84, of Truro, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro surrounded with her family. Born in Baddeck, January 12, 1927 she was a daughter of the late Dr. James Albert Currie and Sadie (MacLeod) Currie R.N. She was a graduate of the Children’s Hospital (IWK) Halifax. She had formerly been employed with the Children’s Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital Nigh Supervisors Children’s Ward and with the Victorian Order of Nurses Truro. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church Truro, where she was a member of the UCW, taught Sunday School and a leader in C.G.I.T.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Edward E. McCarthy; son, David E. McCarthy (Sharon Butterfield), Halifax; step-granddaughter, Michelle Butterfield, Calgary, AB; number of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Irene Currie;
She was predeceased by brother, James A. Currie; sister, Mary C. Rivers; infant sister, Ruth.
Visitation will take place from 1 pm until 2 pm followed by funeral service at 2 pm on Saturday, March 12, 2011 in the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Rev. Jay Ettinger will officiate with a reception to follow in the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date in Falmouth Centre Cemetery, Falmouth, NS. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association. The family wishes to say a special thank you to the Palliative Care Unit of Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, and to the staff of Sandi’s Home for Seniors, Truro, for all your kindness and care given to Anna.
