Paul, John Wayne, 48, of Paq’tnkek First Nation, Antigonish County, died suddenly on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at home.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of Rose Paul and the late John Andrew Marshall.
Wayne was an expert at taking one man’s junk and turning it into a treasure. He did a tremendous amount of volunteer work on the reserve for all community events, including being ‘Santa’s helper’. Wayne was a music lover and had a deep appreciation for 70s and 80s music. He loved kids and was a favourite uncle of his nieces and nephews, and a friend to all.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his children, Alice Paul and Duane Marshall; siblings, Ducy ‘Rosemary’ Paul Merrill (Bob) Mass., USA, Peter Paul, Freda Paul (Lloyd Burley), Dartmouth, Patsy Johnson (John Sylliboy), Eskasoni, Delores Paul (Charles Robitaille), Diane Paul, Mary M. Paul, Anne Marie Paul (Kerry Prosper), Darlene Paul (Earl E. Lafford), and Sharlene Naylor (Kevin),Mi., USA; and half-sister, Dora Gloade and Yvonne Marshall; foster siblings, Mary Freda Paul, Harold Paul, Phyllis Prosper (John Noel), David Francis (Sally), Mary Ann Dort (Don), Rosalind Julian (Robert), and Brad Paul (Courtney); and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his half brother, Francis Marshall and foster parents, Ben Paul and Matilda Sylliboy.
Visitation will be at 37 Mug-a-sun Rd., Paq’tnkek First Nation, Monday after 2 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Rev. Charles Cameron presiding. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Summerside Road, Heatherton. Feast and Saliday to follow at Paqtnkek Community Centre.
