It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing at home, 22 Chappel Dr., of Mary Gouthro, on Sunday, July 12, 2009, surrounded by immediate and extended family.
Born Jan. 19, 1934, in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Carmella (Currie) MacGillivary.
She was educated in St. Anne’s School. She worked first at Maritime Tel and Tel before joining the sales staff at Rosenblum’s Ladies Wear, where she cultivated many lasting relationships with an appreciative clientele. Mary also had a passion for good music and dancing.
Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, Gerard; her children, Gerard (Linda Stewart), Yvonne (John) Maxner and Gregory (Michelle Kelly), all of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Darrell, Alicia and David Gouthro, Jeffrey, Bradley and Jennifer Maxner and Mark Gouthro; great-grandchildren, Katie and Emma Gouthro, Emily and Erin Buckland, Zoey, Cloe and Avery Maxner; sisters, Ursula (Art) Henry, Gloria (Clyburn Donovan), Sheila (Eymard) Lambert and Arlene (Barry) Martin; brother Xavier ‘FX’ (Patricia); many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Thelma and Sharon, brothers, Bernard Jr. and Steve.
Visitation tomorrow (Tuesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. The KOC will assemble at 7:30 p.m. for prayers. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday 11 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, with cousin Rev. Bill Rankin officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Palliative Care, the VON, the Cancer Patient Care Fund or a charity of choice.
