The passing of Bussie MacLeod occurred Friday, July 10, 2009, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, N.S., after a brief and intense battle with cancer.
He died with peace and dignity surrounded by his immediate family members.
Bussie is survived by Christene, his loving wife of 52 years; his daughter, Helen (Bruce) Thistle; sons, Fred MacLeod, Charles (Annette) MacLeod and Carl (Cheryl) MacLeod.
Bussie was particularly proud of his grandchildren, Grace and Sandy Thistle, Scott MacLeod, Craig Etheridge, Jillian and Haley MacLeod. He is also survived by sisters, Esther (Don) Ivey, North Sydney, Annette (Tommy) Whiffen, Margaret MacLeod; and brother, Joey (Susan) Boudreau, Sydney.
Bussie was predeceased by his youngest son, Ronald Gordon MacLeod.
Bussie recently was proud to be the recipient of his 50-year Masonic Jewel. He was an honorary fire chief of the Middle River Volunteer Fire Department. He was a long-standing member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association, the Highland Seniors Club and chairman of the board of managers, Farquarson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River.
The family would like to thank Dr. Genge and the staff of Victoria County Memorial Hospital for their unwavering efforts, support and optimism. A special mention needs to be made to Debbie MacKenzie and her team from Continuing Care and Palliative Care.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial and Masonic service will be held Wednesday, July 15 at Middle River Farquarson Memorial Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. Louis Ihasz.
A celebration of life will follow at Middle River Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may e made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Farquarson Presbyterian Memorial Fund or a charity of choice.
