It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Viola Muriel Walker, 78, a resident of William Street, North Sydney, on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Georges River, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Beatrice (Dearing) Newman.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, and was a member of TOPS for a number of years. Viola was a loving mother and grandmother, she loved animals, was an avid sports fan, especially a Boston Bruins fan.
Surviving are her sons, Gary Walker, Halifax, Derrick (Michelle) Walker, Calgary, Lindsay (Kelly) Walker, Sydney; daughters, Norma (Nancy) Walker, Betty (Lindsay) Gouthro, Tracy (Chris) Standing, all of North Sydney; one sister, Genevieve ‘Gen’ MacEachern; and a brother, Russell (Marina) Newman, both of North Sydney. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by sons, Bernard ‘Bookie’ Walker, in 2005, and Ralph Walker in May of this year, brothers, Arthur, Thomas Maxwell and Barsley Newman, sisters, Marie Bonnar, Grace Brown.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, with Rev. David Luker, officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
