MacLean, Mae Elizabeth, 88, of Salmon River, Colchester County, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2011, at the VG Site, QE ll, Halifax, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Mount Thom, Pictou Co., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Isabella (Sutherland) MacKay. Mae was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was known to many as “Aunt Mae”. Family was always the most important part of her life and she would place the needs of her family ahead of herself. She was a faithful member of St. James Presbyterian Church for 68 years, was a member of the Morning Auxiliary and the afternoon Bible Study. Knitting was a favorite pass time (mittens being her specialty), but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Carl (Michelle), Wallaceburg, ON; Bob (Beth), Greenfield, NS; Tom (Valerie), Lower Harmony, NS; her grandchildren, Alison, Brandon, Dan, Candice, Shana, Natasha and Morgan as well as 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her feline friend Jingles. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Munroe MacLean in 1985 and her only brother, Alexander MacKay in 1973. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 25, between 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Funeral service will be 2pm Saturday, February 26, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 725 Prince Street Truro, with Dr. Brian Ross officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Spring interment in the Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. James Presbyterian Church Truro, the Canadian Cancer Society, Pancreatic Research, or a charity of your choice.
