John Allan Darling

The death of John Darling, in his 99th year, of Quispamsis, husband of Phyllis (Hoyt) Darling, occurred February 23, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Quispamsis, son of the late Winfred and Fannie (Dickson) Darling. John was an active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Quispamsis. He graduated from UNB in 1933 and served in World War II with the 1st Field Company Engineers and was a member of Hampton Branch 28, Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed wood carving, playing his violin, and a game of cards. John is survived by Phyllis, his wife of 60 years; two daughters, Jackalyn Darling (John Foster) Woodstock, Dale Darling (Steve Coughlan), Halifax ; two sisters, Winnifred Parlee of Sussex and Muriel Loughery of Saint John; two grandchildren, Liam and Genevieve and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Lewis and Roland; sisters, Margaret and Alice, and infant daughter, Wendy. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 28 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9pm at Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton. The Funeral will be held Tuesday, March 1 at 11:00am at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Quispamsis with Rev. Canon Wally Corey officiating. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery at a later date. Memorials to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Current Fund) would be appreciated by the family. www.reidsfh.com
