Geraldine Clements

The death of Geraldine Ruth (Smith) Clements of Fredericton, NB occurred at York Manor on February 24th, 2011, wife of the late Cedric Stead Clements. Born in Perth, NB on June 5th, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Francis Smith and Catharine Rose (Larlee) Smith. Geraldine was educated in the Fredericton schools. She graduated from the school of nursing at the Saint John General Hospital in 1944. She worked at the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton for two years. In 1946 she joined the staff of the Sackville Memorial Hospital as obstetrical supervisor and in 1947 took on the additional duties of assistant superintendent and became the Superintendent on April 30th, 1958. In 1970, she became the Director of Nursing at the Oromocto Hospital until her retirement in 1973. Geraldine was a founding member and past president of the Sackville Nurses' Club and was an active worker in the Sackville Girl Guide Association. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Prosser (Bryant) of St. Catharine's, ON and her brother, David R. C. Smith (Betty) of Fredericton, NB; nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Marian Smith of Vancouver and Marie Smith of Fredericton. She was predeceased by her sister, Charlotte Prime (Donald); her brothers, William Smith of Fredericton and Wallace Smith of Vancouver, BC.
No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held from McAdam's Funeral Home Chapel on February 28th, 2011 at 2:00 pm. A private burial will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
