Mrs. Marcie Rayne Gattey (nee Knox), 53, of Bismarck, N.D., passed away quietly on Monday, February 21, 2011, at her home in, Bismarck, following a lengthy illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 26th, at 10:30 AM, at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck, with Rev. John Guthrie officiating. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, February 25th, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a prayer service will begin at 7:00 PM. Interment will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, Bismarck.
Marcie was born August 22, 1957, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to Merdith and Constance Knox. She was raised and educated in Moose Jaw, graduating from Central Collegiate Institute High School in 1975. Marcie moved to Saskatoon, SK, and earned a diploma as a Medical Office Assistant. She met her husband, Dr. Philip Heath Gattey and they were married in Moose Jaw on May 31, 1980. Marcie and Philip travelled throughout Canada and also resided in Saskatoon, Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto, Moose Jaw, Prince George and finally Bismarck.
While Philip was doctoring, Marcie managed to raise 4 wonderful children, cherishing every moment that family life extended her. She also enjoyed volunteering. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and most recently, was President of the Bismarck Symphony Association. She also enjoyed needlework, sewing, reading and spending as much time as she could with her new granddaughter, Marie. Although she didn’t manage to complete all the items on her “bucket list”, she truly cherished the time she had with family and friends.
Marcie is survived by her husband Philip, Bismarck; son Nathan, Richlands, NC; daughter Lynelle (Tyler) Kolden, Denver, CO; son Evan, Bismarck; son Jared, San Diego, CA; grand-daughter Marie Kolden; parents Merdith and Connie Knox, Moose Jaw, SK; siblings Susan (Chris Simpson) Knox, Victoria, BC; Kelly (Randy) Dahl, Broderick, SK; Lyndsay (Blair) Brandon, Surrey, BC; Rhonda (Sean) Ward, Saskatoon, SK; Heather (Dwight) Pearson, Gordon (Lorraine) Knox, and Jana (Sylvain Desruisseaux) Knox, Moose Jaw, SK;, numerous nieces and nephews and lifetime friend, Susan Moore, Regina, SK.
