James William (Jim) Gibbs, died February 23, 2011 with “his hat on” at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Jim was born February 26, 1919 in Moose Jaw and resided his entire life in the Blue Hill - Briercrest District. Jim served Blue Hill United Church in many capacities and was a valued member of many community clubs and organizations. He was a tinkerer, mechanic, machinist, avid train lover and a farmer. He was also a member of the Briercrest Masonic Lodge #80, Lodge of Perfection, Rose Croix, Saskatchewan Consistory. Jim was predeceased by his wife, May (Gammage); sons-in-law, Wilfred Runzer and Ken Sempel; special brother-in-law, Joe Jasper and other sisters-/brothers-in-law. He is survived by his daughters: Linda Sempel, Karen Runzer and Grace Gibbs; son, Bill Gibbs; granddaughter, Kristin (Doug) Brooke; grandson, Robert (Jennifer) Runzer; great-grandchildren: Jillian, Alaina and Adam Brooke; Joel and Regan Runzer; sister, Edna Jasper; nephew, John (Lori) Jasper; niece, Helen (Dale) Whitfield; great-niece Nancy (Lee) Anthony, great-nephews, Michael Whitfield (Amanda Campbell) and Tyson Jasper; great-great-nephew and nieces, Wyatt, Alexa and Josie Anthony; sister-in-law, Margaret English; cousin, Bill Shortland and family, and many appreciated nieces and nephews. Many thanks go to Drs. B. Van Heerden and Majid; staffs at Moose Jaw Union Hospital, Chez Nous and Velda and Kathy. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Briercrest United Church, Briercrest. Masonic funeral rites will be presented. Flowers are gratefully declined.
