Gertrude White

On February 23, 2011, Grand Falls and more recently Plaster Rock lost one of its long time residents, Gertrude Louise White, aged 101 yrs old who passed away peacefully at the Tobique Valley Manor, Plaster Rock.
Gertrude was predeceased by her husband Rex McLaren White who passed away in 1972. Also, predeceasing her were her siblings Helen (Lawrence) Boyles, Mildred (Hank) Diwell, Evelyn (Alfred) Thomas, Bertha Warnock, Borden (Jean) Warnock and Margaret (Frederick) Gaines. Gertrude is survived by her daughter Eleanor Althea Blandford (widow of Alexander Samuel Blandford) and her grandchildren, Jennifer Louise Bottrell, Catherine Judith Burgess and Robert Douglas Alexander Blandford and her great-grandchildren, David James Bottrell, Elizabeth Jane Bottrell and Sarah Katie Burgess, all residing in Australia. Gertrude was born in September 1909 at Drummond, New Brunswick and spent most of her life living in Grand Falls and Hartland. She was the daughter of Frederick and Clementine Warnock and grew up in Drummond before moving to Grand Falls. During her married life Gertrude worked alongside her husband Rex managing their general store in both Grand Falls and Hartland. For several years Gertrude worked as a Quality Control Officer for McCains. When she had spare time Gertrude made many hand-stitched quilts which she sent to her family in Australia. Gertrude was able to travel to Australia twice while she was in her 80's. Gertrude was the eldest member of the Grand Falls Historical Society.
Funeral services for Gertrude will be held in the spring from St. Andrew's United Church, Grand Falls with interment to follow in the Union Cemetery.
Eleanor Blandford offers her gratitude to the staff of the Tobique Valley Manor and a dedicated loving group of family and friends for their wonderful care of Gertrude over the last few years.
