Matthew Roy Leard

Peacefully at the Maplewood Manor, Alberton, on Wednesday, Feb. 23, with his family by his side of Matthew Roy Leard of Alberton, age 92 years.
Born in Alberton on October 30, 1919, he was the son of the late Cyril R.S. and Jenny Myra (nee Campbell) Leard.
He was a veteran of the Second World War and past Grand Master of the Grand Loge of P.E.I.
He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Gladys Cousins, and by his second wife, the former Eileen Brennan.
He is survived by his sons Alan (Lynda) of Brooklyn, Robert (Kitty) of Alberton. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Gladys (Ivan) Foster of Faucett, Alberta; Jason of Alberton; Matthew (Joni) of Mill River; Alex (Lisa) of Alberton. He is also survived by his nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister Retta Edmonds.
Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home, Alberton. Visiting hours Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral on Tuesday morning, March 2, from the Gordon Memorial United Church, Alberton, for funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Sue Paterson officiating. Interment later in Woodlawn Cemetery, Alberton.
As an expression of sympathy memorials to the Shriners or to the Maplewood Manor would be gratefully appreciated.
St. Anthony’s Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a service of remembrance at the funeral home Monday evening at 6:45 p.m.
The brethren from Zetland Lodge #7 AM&FM will hold a Masonic service at the funeral home at 8:45 p.m.
