WENTZELL, Vernon Eugene - 85, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late James and Hilda (Oickle) Wentzell. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He also served with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Kings Branch No. 6, Kentville, where he held many offices, up to and including President. Upon his discharge from military service, he was employed for a period of time with Irving Oil Limited as well as operating the Valley Drive-In, Cambridge. Vernon enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to construct models. He is survived by two step-daughters, Sheila (Russell) Bezanson, Coldbrook; Patricia Jodrie, Berwick; two step-sons, Reg (Donna) Jodrie, Kentville; Ronald (Judy) Jodrie, St. Stephen, New Brunswick; a sister, Madeline Frail (Rodney, deceased), Dartmouth; a niece, Sharon Nix, Sackville; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Vivian (Dauphinee) (Jodrie); a son, Ted Wentzell; a brother, Elliott Wentzell. There was no visitation, by request. A combined Royal Canadian Legion service, funeral service and reception was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend John McNally officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only, by request.
