The death of Catherine E. (Mabel) Sherwood of Serenity Cove Special Care Home, Woodman’s Point and formerly of 137 Connor Street, wife of the late Colin S. Sherwood, occurred on Saturday at the Saint John Regional Hospital in her 96th year. Born on June 5, 1915 in North Sydney, Cape Breton, N.S., she was a daughter of the late William F. and Eunice (McInnis) Cox. Catherine is survived by her daughter, Betty Stears (John) of Westfield and her son, Gary of Toronto. She is also survived by her sisters, Josephine Birmingham and Edna MacMillan of St. Catherines, Ontario, as well as eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, Catherine was predeceased by her sons, Leonard and Brian, her daughter, Christina Devlin, her grand-daughter, Chrissie, her great-grandson, Adam, brothers, Joseph, John, Raymond and Patrick and sisters, Mary and Helene.
Resting at Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel on Wednesday morning at 10:00 am followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Sand Cove Road.
