It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Katherine ‘Katie’ MacEachern on Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the home of her daughter, Anne, where she resided for the past eight years.
Born September 25, 1911 in Grand Mira, she was the daughter of the late Dan R. and Catherine (Gillis) MacDougall.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She raised her family in Grand Mira, and in later years moved to Sydney where she was a member of Sacred Heart parish. Katie was well known for her tea and biscuits and her house was open to all. She never missed a bingo game, card game or going to any function.
She is survived by her daughter, Anne MacNeil (Doug) and son, Francis, both of Sydney; six grandchildren, Jason (Annie), Brian, Lisa (Tim), Laura, Martin, Blair; eight great-grandchildren, Keagan, Taylor, Abigail, Katlyn, Isabella, Jason, Alex and Morgan. Also surviving is brother-in-law, Duncan MacEachern; sister-in-law, Annie MacKinnon, both from Michigan; daughter-in-law, Carolyn and by several nieces and nephews.
Katie was predeceased by her husband, Johnnie in 1986; son, Joe MacDougall; son-in-law, Martin MacNeil; brothers, Ronald, Johnnie ‘Duke’ and James.
Visitation for Katie MacEachern will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Jim MacLean officiating. Interment in St. Margaret’s Parish Cemetery, Grand Mira.
Donations may be made to the St. Margaret’s Building Fund.
