John “Garth” Hanna of Cardross passed away peacefully on February 24, 2011 at the age of 80 years. Garth was born April 12, 1930 to Ed and Wilhemina Hanna on the family farm near Horizon, SK. The family moved to Imperial in 1946. Garth began working with the Department of Highways. Garth married Elizabeth Braun in 1957. After working in Regina for a few years they moved to Cardross to farm in 1964. Garth was a member of the Assiniboia Masonic Lodge, Assiniboia Shriner’s Club and a councilor with the RM of Terrell 101. He is predeceased by his parents Ed and Wilhemina; son Stewart; brother Neil; sister Fran and stepdad Archie Robertson. Garth will be sadly missed by his wife, Elizabeth; children Scott (Debbie), Maureen, Rodney (Tracy) and Darcy; grandchildren Jamie (Ashley), Chris, Darren, Ryan, Laura-Lee, and Leah; one great-grandchild on the way; brothers Allison (Jo) Hanna, Dale (Diane) Hanna as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at W. J. Jones and Son Chapel. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will take place at Crane Valley Cemetery at a later date.
