STELLARTON - Helen Emeline Sparks, Stellarton, formerly of New Glasgow, with treasured memories of a life well-lived, had a peaceful transition from this life to the next on Friday, February 25, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital with her loving family by her side. She is now in the room Christ had prepared for her. Born June 29, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Fogarty of Westville and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Allister Sparks. Having family close to her and visits from friends and family were important to her. She enjoyed playing cards and growing plants and she always had a beautiful display of flowers on her veranda at 467 East River Road. She especially enjoyed watching figure skating at the Winter Olympics or National and International competitions. Helen is survived by daughter, Judy (Robert) Hurtubise, Kingston, Ontario, sons, James (Betty Ann Lewis), Fredericton, Allan, Charlottetown, Raymond (Mary MacDonald), Bangkok, Thailand; daughter-in-law, Maureen Coffill, Kentville; grandchildren, Scott (Kendra) Sparks, Joyce (Peter) Wiggins, Nicole (Regan) Watts, Kristen Sparks, Bryan Sparks, Trevor Sparks, and Ryan Sparks; great-grandchildren, Brandon Sparks, Meaghan Donovan, Caleigh Farrell, Karley Wiggins, Madeline Wiggins, and Brooke Sparks; great-great grandchildren, Kieran and Sophia Donovan; as well as many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling and visited numerous countries as well as going on several cruises to the Caribbean and South America.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 1, from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm from the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. A mass of Christian burial to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, March 2, at 11:00 am from Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Westville, Father Bill Rankin presiding. Reception to follow in the parish hall. A committal service will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Farrell and staff in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for the wonderful care they have given to Helen.
