Laurie Wilson passed away on Feb. 27, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by family.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John Roach and Annie (MacInnis) Roach.
She is survived by her loving children, sons, Darryl (Joy), Sydney River, Kirk, Houston, Texas; daughter, Shauna (Paul Oldford), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Lara (Ryan), Erin, Paul (Denice), Nan, Annie Beth and Daniel, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by sister, Catherine Shea and brothers, Glen (Jean) Roach and Charles (Margaret) Roach, sister-in-law, Carrie Roach and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, ‘Woodie’ in June, 2010 and sisters; Annie Stacia and Catherine Elizabeth in childhood and brothers, John, Duncan, William and Daniel and daughter-in-law, Eileen (Hull).
She was employed as an operator/supervisor with Maritime Tel & Tel prior to becoming a full time mother to her family. She was a member of Knox United Church, the United Church Women and the Jubilee Rebekah Lodge.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place at Knox United Church, Commercial Street, Glace Bay on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Rev. John Findlayson and Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall basement. Family interment will be held at a later date.
Family flowers only, by request. Memorial donations may be made to Knox United Church Memorial Fund, the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
