It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Clarence Darroch, 74, of New Waterford, on Feb. 28, 2011 at home.
Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Cameron and Marguerite (Mason) Darroch.
Clarence worked at Nos. 16, 12, 26 and Lingan collieries for 36 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Army, Navy, Airforce for many years and enjoyed playing darts and camping in Cheticamp with his family during the summer months.
Surviving are daughters, Brenda (Jimmy Swartzack) Darroch, Wanda Darroch and Deborah Sullivan, all of Glace Bay; brothers, Camey, New Waterford, Blair (Rita), Sydney; sisters, Doreen, New Waterford, Dale (Wayne) Ralston, Connecticut; many nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Shaun Darroch and Cory Sullivan.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Eileen (MacNeil) Darroch.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Monday, March 7 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown, with a luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy, Airforce, Wilson Avenue, New Waterford.
